Boat Disposals, handled start to finish by Channel Watch
Channel Watch offers a complete solution for vessel disposals, from the tow, haul out, hazardous materials mitigation, to the actual disposal. Sometimes vessels get disposed of after an accident, such as when a boat sinks, and sometimes because the vessel is old and beyond repair. Increasingly, owners are cutting ties with their boats due to difficulties selling, and want to stop paying the overheads associated to boat ownerships sooner rather than later.
Boat owners are having a difficult time these days when having to deal with selling old boats, that are at or near end of life. Insurance companies are not writing new policies on boats over certain years, such as 40 years and marinas are not letting in new tenants over a certain model year, such as 2000, or requiring an insured value of the vessel being high. Boat owners are stuck without potential buyers because of these limitations.
Boat owners call and they just want to know the exact price to dispose of a boat, which is difficult as Channel Watch tries to understand all the factors involved to provide a reasonable price. Fuel & hazmat is one of our largest expenses, costing us nearly $10 per gallon of fuel to dispose so we’d rather stop by and measure fuel in a tank so we don’t have to assume it’s full. Other costs that impact the price is the vessel’s weight, trailer-ability, mast configuration, and the time needed to remove all hazardous materials, such as fuel, engine oil, transmission fluid, fire extinguishers, and flares.
